Of the initial 83 Bosniak category 2F lesions, 37% (31/83) were downgraded to Bosniak category 1 or 2, 51% (42/83) remained Bosniak category 2F, and 12% (10/83) were upgraded on follow-up imaging. Of the initial 37 Bosniak category 3 lesions, 43% (16/37) were downgraded, and 57% (21/37) remained Bosniak category 3 or progressed to category 4.

The Bosniak 2F type of kidney cysts has these characteristics: increased number of septa (thick walls of cysts); minimal thickening of septa; minimally complex but requiring follow-up tests (reasonable at around 6 months); the presence of hyperdense The Bosniak classification system of renal cystic masses divides renal cystic masses into five categories based on imaging characteristics on contrast-enhanced CT. It is helpful in predicting a risk of malignancy and suggesting either follow up or treatment. Bosniak 2F type of kidney cyst has the following characteristics: namely type 2F [3]. The 'F' is for follow up, as this group of cysts require imaging follow up to rule out malignancy. Twenty years on since the introduction of type 2F, the diagnosis of many frequently encountered cystic masses still proves challenging, even to experienced radiologists.

735 Minnee R.C. et al.: Later on, back at the urology office, they did follow-up ultrasounds, which showed no further trace of the kidney stone (although their were some tiny new stones which were too small to cause problems). But the urologist said that their were several kidney cysts, and classified them as Bosniak 2F. suggested that “the minimum follow up remains to be defined” • It is the policy of this department to follow Bosniak 2F Renal cysts by CT scans at 6 months, and 1 year, and then annually until 5 years • This policy may be varied to take into account the age and comorbidity of the patient 2013-05-15 In a study focused on length of follow-up of 156 Bosniak category 2F lesions, Hindman et al. found that no lesion progressed after 3.2 years of follow-up (3.8 years when prospective readings were taken into … November of 2017 a complex renal cyst was noted on an abdominal CT scan. Again noted in December 2017. Finally addressed in February 2018 with a new scan. And again a follow up in September 2018.

According to our present results, 8.6% of the lesions were found to be RCC. For haemorrhagic cysts or partially septated with hyperdense material, we would recommend one imaging (CT/MRI/CEUS) within a period of 4–5 years, because some of these lesions can be misinterpreted and are finally deemed to be Bosniak IIF lesions.

n Dedicated follow-up examina-tions, up to 4 years in the ma-jority of Bosniak category 2F le-sions, are required to establish benignity, and longer or shorter follow up periods may be appro-priate for some lesions.

Mean follow- up was 27 months. 56% cysts were >3cm at diagnosis. 98% cysts were unchanged in appearance, whilst 66% did not change in size. Four patients (2%) underwent partial nephrectomy secondary to progression in cyst complexity. Conclusion. Radiological progression of Bosniak 2F cysts is low but may occur up to 24 months after diagnosis.
